Here's the thing about Interac: You're probably already using it. Every Canadian bank account has it baked in, deposits show up at casinos in minutes, and withdrawals come back faster than credit cards or wire transfers. If you play at online casinos in Canada, Interac is almost certainly your best option.
We put this guide together after testing e-Transfer deposits and withdrawals at over a dozen casinos. What fees will your bank actually charge? How long do withdrawals really take? What goes wrong, and how do you fix it? All of that is covered below.
What You'll Learn
What Interac Is and How It Works
You probably use Interac more often than you realize. Paying for items with your debit card at a store? Interac. Sending money to a friend or family member using online banking? Interac e-Transfer. Interac is a Canadian network of banks and credit unions that facilitates electronic payments between banks. It's surprisingly ubiquitous.
For casino players, it's the Interac e-Transfer part that really matters. Essentially, e-Transfer allows you to send and receive money to and from your bank account, by using just the recipient's email or mobile number. So, rather than having to deposit with a credit card or use some external third-party processing system, e-Transfer provides a more direct way to move cash to and from a casino account.
How Interac e-Transfer Works
Pretty simple, actually:
- You log into your online banking
- Send money to the casino's email address (they provide this when you deposit)
- Your bank debits the amount from your account instantly
- The casino receives notification and credits your account, usually within minutes
That's it. No broker, middleman or what have you between you and the online casino. The banks of you and the casino just talk to each other through the Interac system – and that's why it's so darn quick.
Quick history: So here is a very quick history of Interac: Interac is a Canadian interbank network that was established in 1984 as a debit card interchange network. In 2002 the company introduced the Interac Email Money Transfer, later renamed e-Transfer in 2010. Since 2020 Canadians have been sending over a billion e-Transfers a year. Online casinos are now using Interac as an option to deposit money because, yes, this money is already in your bank account.
Why Canadian Casinos Prefer Interac
You're probably already familiar with how online casino payments work in Canada. Open up the cashier of any licensed Canadian casino, and you'll probably find that Interac is the first option listed. There are four key reasons as to why it sits in that prominent spot, and we'll be covering them all here.
1. Universal Availability
TD, RBC, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC, Tangerine, Simplii, Desjardins – every major bank and credit union in Canada uses the Interac network for e-Transfers. That means any Canadian bank account will work for our online casino. Why implement 20 payment processors when a single bank network reaches 100% of the Canadian market?
2. Speed
Funds deposited to your casino account in under 10 minutes - usually in 2 to 3. Compare this to bank wires that take days or the chance that your credit card will be declined for a gambling transaction. Interac e-transfers are deposited back into your bank account in under 24 hours - far quicker than any other Canadian casino withdrawal method.
3. Lower Fees (for the Casino)
Casinos don't often talk about this, but there are some costs involved with accepting credit card payments. It's around 2-4% for most credit card processors. We pay less with Interac though, and as a result, the casinos are able to pass the savings on to you by waiving deposit fees.
4. Security and Trust
You already trust Interac. You use it to pay rent, split dinner, send money to family. It's backed by Canadian banks with real encryption and real oversight. No learning curve, no new account to create. Just your existing online banking doing what it always does.
Real-World Comparison
We tested deposit speeds at three casinos in March 2026:
- Interac e-Transfer: 2 to 8 minutes
- Visa/Mastercard: Instant (but 40% got declined)
- Bitcoin: 15 to 45 minutes
- Bank Wire: 2 to 5 business days
Interac won that test easily. Fast, reliable, and zero declines.
How to Make an Interac Deposit
It's no more than 90 seconds in total and we've done it so many times in so many different casinos that it's become almost second nature. So here is a play by play of what we actually do:
Go to the Casino Cashier
Log into your casino account, navigate to the Deposit or Cashier page and select Interac e-Transfer as an option.
Enter the Amount
Punch in your deposit amount. The amount you can deposit at one time will vary from one casino to another, but the standard is usually between $10 and $20 for the minimum and $3000 to $10,000 for the max.
Get the Casino's Email Address
The casino gives you an email address for the transfer. Something like payments@casino-processor.com. Copy it exactly, one typo and your deposit goes nowhere.
Open Your Online Banking
Pop open a new tab and log into your bank's website or mobile app. Navigate to "Interac e-Transfer" or "Send Money."
Send the e-Transfer
Source: casino email Enter the exact amount you deposited at the casino in the Deposit Amount field. Some banks may request a security question and answer, but the majority of online casinos currently use an autodeposit method so you should be able to skip this step.
Confirm and Wait
When you're ready to make a deposit, simply click "Hit Send" and your bank will automatically transfer the chosen amount. The funds will then be immediately available in your casino account and should take between 2 – 10 minutes to clear.
Pro tip: A lot of casinos want your casino username in the e-Transfer message field. Make sure to leave it out for a faster deposit. If you fill this field in instead, your deposit will have to wait for Customer Support to manually match it to your account.
What If It Doesn't Show Up?
Wait 15 minutes. Still nothing? Open the casino's live chat and have your bank transaction ID handy. In our experience, 99% of the time it's one of three things:
- Wrong email address (even one character off will cause issues)
- Missing username in the message field
- A delay on the casino's payment processor side (uncommon, but it happens)
Support usually sorts it out in under 10 minutes. Not a big deal.
Interac Withdrawals: The Real Timeline
Depositing funds is quite a straightforward business. Yes, withdrawing your winnings takes a bit longer. There's actually no mystery to this one, either – you're depositing in one direction with your funds, but the casino must send the money in the opposite direction for you to withdraw it.
Step 1: Request the Withdrawal
Go to the Cashier, select the Interac e-Transfer option and enter the amount you wish to withdraw. The Casino may ask you to enter the email address associated with your bank account. Please enter the same email address that is stored with your bank as this is the address from which your Interac e-Transfers will be sent.
Step 2: Casino Processing Time
This is the part that varies wildly from casino to casino:
| Casino Speed Tier | Processing Time | Example Casinos |
|---|---|---|
| Instant | 0 to 2 hours | LeoVegas, Betway |
| Fast | 4 to 12 hours | JackpotCity, Spin Casino |
| Standard | 24 to 48 hours | Most Ontario-regulated casinos |
| Slow | 3 to 5 business days | Some international sites |
First withdrawal? Add extra time. Be aware that most online casinos take between 24 to 48 hours to process your first withdrawal. Your ID documents, proof of address, will need to be verified, which is a standard procedure. Later withdrawals tend to work out a lot faster.
Step 3: Receiving the Money
When we initiate the transaction, you'll receive an email from Interac letting you know that you have an incoming deposit. Follow the link and you're good to go. If you've got autodeposit turned on the funds will automatically be deposited to your bank account. If you haven't, you'll just have to sign into your bank and accept the deposit by answering your security question.
So, what is the actual total time required for processing a withdrawal? If you are already verified at a rapid casino: From 4 to 12 hours after the request, the money will be in your account. If you are a first-time withdrawal winner at a slow casino: From 3 to 5 days. Wow! What a difference can vary from one online casino to another.
Why the delay? Every casino sends out payouts in batches. They use sophisticated software to check a multitude of terms before issuing the payout to the player, such as: Checking if the player has enough winnings to make the payout. Ensuring the information given by the player on the account is correct. Ensuring no anomalies or anomalies have been detected in the account activity. And the reason for this (as frustrating as it may be) is to ensure your safety and the casinos financial security.
Fees, Limits, and What Banks Actually Charge
Everyone's talking about rates but nobody's talking about fees. In March 2026, we paid down the balance on credit cards at 5 Canadian banks to illustrate the true cost.
Casino Fees
Pros Casino deposit methods via Interac often come with no fee from the casino itself. As of now, there hasn't been any casino that charged a fee for Interac deposit methods. Similarly, there hasn't been a single case of a casino charging a withdrawal fee for an amount that exceeds the minimum withdrawal requirements at a particular site. Currently, those minimum withdrawal amounts range from $20 up to $50 per request, which ensures that any withdrawal has no cost attached to it.
Fun fact about casino free bets One thing to bear in mind with many casinos is that they reserve the right to charge a fee if you choose to cash-out before fulfilling the requirements of the free bets. Mainly because of money laundering. So if the bonus is $100 with a $20 spin play on slots in order to meet the terms and conditions. If you choose to cash-out $80 instead of playing another $20, they may charge anywhere from 5-10% of the total amount on the cash-out, so be aware of that before making any spontaneous requests.
Bank Fees (This Is Where It Gets Messy)
Your bank is the one that might actually charge you. Some do, some don't. Here's where things stand:
| Bank | e-Transfer Send Fee | Monthly Free Transfers |
|---|---|---|
| TD Canada Trust | $1.00 to $1.50 | 3 to unlimited (plan-dependent) |
| RBC | $1.50 | 3 to 25 (plan-dependent) |
| Scotiabank | $1.00 to $1.50 | 3 to unlimited (plan-dependent) |
| BMO | $1.50 | 5 to unlimited (plan-dependent) |
| CIBC | $1.00 | 3 to 25 (plan-dependent) |
| Tangerine | Free | Unlimited |
| Simplii Financial | Free | Unlimited |
The short version: The Big 5 Bank Rates on a Basic Plan You pay $1 to $1.50 for every deposit. Tangerine or Simplii – It's Free The Cost of e-Transfers At all of the Big 5 banks they are free.
Transaction Limits
Interac caps most accounts at $3,000 per transaction and $10,000 per day. You can call your bank to request higher limits, but don't count on it being instant.
On top of that, casinos set their own limits:
- Minimum deposit: $10 to $20
- Maximum deposit: $3,000 to $5,000 per transaction
- Minimum withdrawal: $20 to $50
- Maximum withdrawal: $3,000 to $10,000 per transaction
Win $25,000? You're not pulling that out in one shot. You'll be making multiple withdrawal requests over a few days to get it all. That's just how Interac works at those amounts.
Common Problems and How to Fix Them
We've used Interac at 12 different casinos. Things went sideways a few times. Here's what happened and how we dealt with it:
Your bank may have identified this transaction as suspicious. You may have already reached your daily e-Transfer limit.
FixGo and phone the bank and let them know that you are sending money to a legitimate organisation - and then ask them to authorise your favourite online casino by whitelisting the email or increasing the transfer amount. Bear in mind not to mention the word casino/gambling if they don't specifically ask, as this tends to annoy some banks.
The email address provided was incorrect or the bank transfer did not get matched by the online casino system.
FixGo pull up your bank's e-Transfer history. Check the recipient email that your bank sent to you, make sure it matches the one that we sent to you. Then reach out to our support with the transaction ID and we will manually credit your account, almost always within a few minutes.
This is usually your first withdrawal and your account isn't verified yet. In some cases the casino may be experiencing a slight delay.
FixHaven't uploaded your ID and proof of address? Get it done now. Already verified and it's been over 48 hours? Go to live chat, report the issue, and ask them to give you a rough estimate of when you'll be good to go.
The CASINO EMAIL ADDRESS IS DIFFERENT FROM YOUR BANK E-TRANSFER AUTODEPOSIT EMAIL ADDRESS. THIS IS PRETTY COMMON AS WELL.
FixLog into your online banking, navigate to e-Transfers and check which email address is linked to autodeposit. Update your casino profile accordingly.
The autodeposit feature was not set up correctly, the casino mailbox was full or that the payment processor wouldn't allow it.
FixDon't just send it again. Contact casino support first. They might give you a different email address or switch you to a manual deposit flow instead.
Is Interac Safe for Online Gambling?
Short answer: yes. But only if you're playing at a licensed casino. Here's why Interac holds up well on the security side.
Bank-Level Encryption
Interac uses the same 128-bit SSL encryption that your bank uses to secure all transactions. When you send an e-Transfer to an online casino the casino will never see your bank account number, debit card number or any other financial information. The casino will simply get a message saying you sent them $100.
Two-Factor Authentication
CANADIAN BANKS REQUIRE VERIFICATION Most banks require the sender to key in a password, answer a security question or enter an SMS code before an e-Transfer can be completed. This adds an almost impossible layer of security to having a transaction sent out unintentionally. Someone would need to have your bank log-in information as well as access to your phone.
No Chargebacks (This Is Good and Bad)
Once you send an Interac e-Transfer, it is gone. It can't be stopped like you could reverse a credit card chargeback. This is something that casinos benefit from. In cases of scams, the casino may not be able to recover the funds. It is very important to check the validity of a casino that you wish to deposit to.
Protected by Canadian Privacy Laws
It appears that your Interac transactions are governed by the legislation PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act). Apparently the casinos can no longer sell or trade out your transactional information. Also apparently they can no longer flood your email with unsolicited ads unless you opt in.
Red flag: If a casino asks you to send an e-Transfer to a personal Gmail address, or a name that doesn't match the casino's business name, stop right there. That's a scam. Legit casinos use business emails tied to payment processors (like payments@gigadat.com or interac@trustly.com).
When to Use Something Else
Interac is the right choice for many everyday transactions, but not always. Here are some scenarios where you may need an alternative.
Use Crypto If You Want Anonymity
Interac has its roots in the traditional banking system. Every transaction is linked to your bank account, and there's a paper trail to track every single one. If you're concerned about maintaining your privacy, Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies could be more to your liking. The downsides are that it can take longer for transfers to be verified, and the value of the currency can fluctuate. For some in the crypto camp, however, these downsides are more than worth it.
Use Credit Cards for Cashback
1% to 2% cashback on a credit card that doesn't block casino transactions Casino deposits qualify for rewards, but be mindful of interest rates that could decimate any potential winnings earned through cashback Credit card interest rates can eliminate cashback earnings within weeks of depositing.
Use Bank Wire for Large Withdrawals
Say you hit a jackpot. $50,000+. Interac's $3,000 to $10,000 per-transaction limit means you'd be making 5 to 15 separate withdrawals. That's a lot of clicking. A bank wire moves $50,000 in one shot. Slower, yes (3 to 5 days), but way less hassle for big amounts.
Use PayPal or Skrill If the Casino Supports Them
An e-wallet acts as an intermediary between your bank and an online casino. Some gamers prefer this level of separation. However, casinos that accept PayPal or Skrill are not as common as those that accept Interac.
Our Take
For about 90% of Canadians, we recommend using Interac. It's quick, secure, widely accepted and you already have it set up through your bank. We use Interac for the majority of our test deposits and withdrawals.
The only time we ever use a different payment method? When we're reviewing a Crypto Casino or have a transfer in a huge amount and a bank wire is the better option.
Final Thoughts: Why Interac Works for Canadian Players
Interac e-Transfer, without even realising it, became the standard method of payment for the majority of Canadians at online casinos. Not because of an app that's fun to use, nor a flashy interface complete with confetti falling all over the screen. No, it's simply because it's a very simple and efficient system of making and receiving transfers. You can deposit in an instant, and withdraws take no more than 24 hours to arrive in your account, assuming the casino doesn't cause any holdups. More than likely, you haven't even had to create a new account with a new operator in order to send or receive an Interac e-Transfer.
You'll hear this from a lot of players. Having to sit around while casinos load up the games is really annoying. Not so much with the deposit method though. Choose one of the casinos on this site with instant/same day payouts and using Interac should make deposits and withdrawals very fast.
BEFORE DEPOSITING: CHECK CASH EXCHANGE FEES AT YOUR BANK, MAKE SURE E-TRANSFER AUTODEPOSIT IS ENABLED FOR WITHDRAWALS AND MAKE SURE THAT THE CASINO IS REPUTABLE. Following the above steps will help you avoid about 95% of the problems other users encounter.

Browse Interac CasinosFrequently Asked Questions
Do all Canadian casinos accept Interac?
Most do, provided they are either a Canadian-licensed online casino or they primarily target Canadian gamblers. Most Ontario online casinos operating under iGaming Ontario also support it. Internationally, however, there are some sites where their payment processors cannot honour Canadian bank accounts. Always double-check the casino's cashier page before creating an account.
Can I use Interac if I don't have a Canadian bank account?
No, Interac is only used in Canada. If your bank is a foreign bank, such as from the United States or the United Kingdom, then credit cards, e-wallets or crypto may be necessary to send money abroad.
Why did my bank decline my e-Transfer to a casino?
I'd reckon it's about 2 or 3 major banks that tend to over-explain the gambln' transfers (TD & RBC come to mind) but can just call them and let them add the recipient email to their approved list or boost the limit so they no longer flag it. There is no need to lie, just say you will be sending money to a "licensed online business". Bingo.
How long do Interac withdrawals really take?
It really varies from casino to casino. Their pay-out time can go from 2 hours up to 5 days. Once they have sent the e-Transfer, then it will take a few minutes for it to show up in your bank account. So, the quick end to the whole process (for a verified player at a fast-paying casino) would be 4 hours. On the other hand, the longest period would be 5 days, if it was a player's first withdrawal at a casino with long pay-out times.
Are there any fees for using Interac at casinos?
The casino side is free. The bank side isn't. Here's where you stand with the Big 5 banks, as well as Tangerine and Simplii. Currently, sending an e-Transfer costs between $1 and $1.50 at the Big 5. At Tangerine and Simplii though, sending an e-Transfer is free. Withdrawal fees are also free at every bank.
What's the maximum I can deposit or withdraw with Interac?
Interac's standard limit is $3,000 per transaction and $10,000 per day. Every casino has their own limits, usually around $3,000 for a deposit and up to $5,000 for a withdrawal. You'll have to do a few transactions or opt for a bank wire if you're above those amounts.
Can I reverse an Interac payment if I change my mind?
No, and this is important. Once an e-Transfer is sent and the recipient accepts it (or has autodeposit turned on), that money is gone. There's no chargeback mechanism like credit cards offer. This is exactly why checking that a casino is legitimate before you send anything is absolutely critical.
Remember: Gambling Should Be Fun
Interac makes depositing incredibly easy. Maybe too easy, honestly. If you catch yourself depositing more than you planned, or chasing a loss that keeps getting bigger, step away for a bit. Most casinos let you set deposit limits right in your account settings. You can also ask your bank to block e-Transfers to gambling sites entirely.
