Marcus Tremblay

Founder & Lead Reviewer

He's the guy that came up with this whole concept. Marcus has been working in the iGaming industry for years. During that time, he's seen countless players run into trouble with casinos. The endless battle for deposit match free spins. Unfair bonus terms. Steer clear of unrealistic winback expectations. And maybe most of all: get annoyed by the constant, nagging, pestering for more money. Tired of all of this, he decided to do something about it. All casinos listed here are vetted and reviewed on a personal basis by Marcus, and he's the final word on whether or not they make it to our recommended casinos list.

How He Got Here

About two years ago Marcus decided to take a leap of faith and leave the iGaming industry behind where he had spent more than 10 years working for several operators and also doing affiliate consultancy. Marcus now feels that he got a unique understanding of how casino bonuses are constructed. The many fine print conditions that need to be read a hundred times, the maximum bet that is hidden away on page 4, cashout limits that only appears in the withdrawal process and many other things that were included to make sure the bonus always looked much bigger and more generous than it actually was.

What broke him? Reading about a bunch of recreational players – not gamblers, just average players who don't gamble more than they can afford to lose – who had their cash outs declined when they tried to play on and realising that the people who had their cash outs declined had done nothing wrong. In this case it was a bonus they had never seen the terms for clause 14 which they had not seen or even known existed. So they hadn't cheated or done anything wrong.

He proposed the CasinoEnjoyer project to Sophie and James, making his pitch in a single sentence: "All the 'best bonuses in Canada' listings rank one way: by the size of the bonus. None of them rank by the chances of winning and turning a profit from claiming it. CasinoEnjoyer is about filling that gap."

What Marcus Actually Does at CasinoEnjoyer

Casino selection

Nothing gets listed in our database without a thumbs up from Marcus. He cares deeply about all the little things that make sure a casino is ready for launch: licensing and ownership info, bonus terms and conditions, etc. So he does his due diligence before we even think about adding the game to our testing queue. If there's something that raises a red flag before we create a test account? It's not getting listed.

Real-money testing

So, in this case, Marcus is the actual person doing the deposits. We are talking about real money here. Normal players, with no special deals or treatment as it were. He documents everything from the length of time of the verification period to which documents are requested, which games contribute to the withdrawal requirements, as well as the value of each round or transfer of the balance. After which he withdraws, and then withdraws again. And repeats this process.

Writing the reviews

Every casino review on this site is written by one person: him. The objective remains the same: to give you an idea of what it's like to join a casino in the present day. Not what is promised by marketing materials, but what is really going on. For him, that means starting with the important stuff that will catch your attention. Pay out times, play through requirements and any potential penalties for early cash out.

The final score

The wraps are off, and Marcus scores every casino in seven categories using the same system every time. A casino needs to score 7.5 or higher in total to get a "Recommended" rating, and less than that with reservations. He also revisits and adjusts the scores each quarter. If a casino changes its terms, or if there is a slowdown in the speed of paying winnings, the scores will change as well.

What He Won't Compromise On

A few things I'd like to point out that Marcus has declined or marked down which I think sum up the spirit of the editorial:

Bidding farewell to the casino partner after their terms and conditions were revised just over a week after the launch of the site. In all honesty, the new terms and conditions were in no way an improvement on the original. A significantly higher commission rate was offered in an attempt to soften the blow but he decided to decline.

We require payouts to be made within five business days, and while it's okay if payouts take longer on occasion, those that do so frequently are ruled out, regardless of size or whether the site carries a well-known name.

There is a pile of material deserving of mention in the review, beginning with the fact that all the "bonus" headlines in this offer are obviously meant to mislead, as has been pointed out before. Not that anyone involved cares very much: eighty of the hundred promised free spins have to be won on that slot after depositing the required hundred bucks. Details are absent from the headline, but are doubtless buried where they might just as well remain.
